We publish it in house, we have it printed locally. We tell stories about our restaurants, our associates, our guests, the things we love. We give hookups to the members of the EggHead Breakfast Club, which is our in house guest reward program.

Yeah, we’re a little different from a “regular” restaurant. We like it that way. Evidently our guests do too. Check our our newsletter archives at http://squeezein.com/newsletters.html or, pick one up at any location (Truckee, Northwest Reno and South Reno).

If you saw a job description that included, but was not limited to, cleaning up puke, wiping little bottoms, enduring the most excruciating sound to human ears (crying babies), sleep deprivation, offered no time off and paid nothing, you would probably run. (Well maybe in this economy you would still drop off your resume and fill out and application, but would secretly be happy when you didn’t get a call back.) And yet, this is what we new Moms joyously call our everyday lives. It’s hard to explain why it’s so amazingly rewarding, but anyone who is a parent knows what I’m talking about. For some reason it’s all worth it every time a little tickle produces a big laugh, or a new found love of avocado results in green smears all over your once favorite sweater.

Having two seven month old babies has done more than change my wardrobe (that avocado smeared sweater goes great with green sweat pants!), it has given me a whole new outlook on life. My perspective of the world has changed in so many ways, it’s almost hard to see anything without my Mommy goggles on (These mommy goggles can be similiar to beer goggles, in that everything can be a little fuzzy, and you don’t always know what you’re saying).

For instance, when the babies are sleeping, the normal hustle and bustle of the neighborhood seems outrageously loud (did the mailman really have to SLAM the mailbox?), or now all of a sudden I’m THAT LADY in the grocery store fretting about the true ‘organic-ness’ of the produce (this apple doesn’t look organic, maybe someone moved it from the non organic apple pile over here just to mess with people like me).

Regardless of my new found outlook, I am relieved to know that I’m still me. Trying to picture me as ‘Mom’ a year ago, was, to say the least, rather difficult. I couldn’t imagine what my inner dialouge would sound like, or how I would be able to handle the new tremendous burden of full time responsibility. I might not look, act, feel or smell the same as I used to, but I didn’t lose the person I was BC (before children), and perhaps that has been one of the greatest gifts of motherhood so far.

Wesley and Emerie are doing fantastic. Now weighing in at over 14 pounds each, they are sweet natured little babies that are interested in everything the world has to offer them. They laugh, wiggle, play and have lengthy conversations with inanimate objects (Emerie has a meaningful relationship with a certain coffee mug, whereas Wesley harbors a deep connection with the living room lamp). When they’re on their tummies they push up and kick their legs and I start to freak out because, oh dear, they are going to be crawling in the next few weeks, and when did that happen?

Wesley loves to move and cuddle, and Emerie loves to jump and dance. They can’t wait for the new restaurant to open so that they have a new ‘home away from home’ to visit, and so that maybe Daddy won’t be coming home so stressed out anymore. (Luckily it only takes one beam from his little girl and he’s mush). We are a haggard bunch, but we are happy and we love each other and that’s the most important thing in the world, or at least it is when you go from being a couple, to being a family.

This is our motto: “It’s our neighborhood too.” So, we give and we give generously. It’s not about “what are we going to get back” for our giving, it’s about, “this is our home, this is our town, these are our neighbors.”

Last month, the Squeeze sponsored a Movember team to raise money for prostate cancer and awareness. The team raised over $2,100 by growing mustaches all month long (November) and then shaving them for charity. See a picture of part of our team featured on the Reno Metromix site: http://reno.metromix.com/bars-and-clubs/photogallery/city-of-remo-2010/2338150/content

Here’s a little blurb we’ve got out there about our giving and our philosophy:

The Squeeze In loves to help the community however we can. We take great pleasure in donating to many worthy fundraisers, events, sponsorships and causes supporting schools, children, athletic programs, cancer research, health promotion and more throughout the year. Our goal is to reach out to nearly every single group that requests our help and provide them assistance to reach their fundraising goals. We donate gift baskets throughout the year that contain two custom color Squeeze In coffee mugs, a bag of locally roasted gourmet coffee, and a $25 Squeeze In gift certificate.

In addition to responding, we also proactively reach out, finding ways to serve our neighbors in Truckee and the Truckee Meadows. This year, for instance, we adopted 25 families for Thanksgiving by working with Evelyn Mount in Reno and with the Family Resource Center in Truckee. We also collected and distributed thousands of dollars in holiday decorations for families in need this year. This weekend is our third year as the main sponsor of the Glenshire Elementary School Santa Breakfast, we’ve supplied hundreds of pounds of sausage at our expense and dozens of gallons of fresh premium orange juice – the best part is that we went to them, they didn’t come to us. Our philosophy is that these are our communities too, and helping make them better helps us as well. It’s just good business, it’s the right thing for neighbors to help neighbors, and frankly, we just really love to be generous and giving.
